Welcome to Alcudia Tourist Information

Alcudia is situated in the North of Mallorca / Majorca. Majorca and the rest of the Balearic islands lay off the south east coast of mainland Spain in the Mediterranean Sea, its sister islands are Ibiza and Menorca.

Majorca / Mallorca is a beautiful island with many things to do and see, natural and man made. Alcudia is the oldest city in Majorca / Mallorca and was founded by the Phonecians. The town offers you everything you would expect on a Spanish holiday, unlike some  of the tourist resorts which are located in the south of the island. It still offers the same 'attractions' that you would find in the south like a water park, go kart track and an array of bars and restaurants. The resort is perfect and very popular for families with young children.

It is definitely the miles and miles of fine white beach that is without doubt the icing on the cake in this extremely laid back North Eastern resort. The walled town of Alcudia, the walls dating back to the 14th century, has many interesting and historical attractions, including Roman ruins, as this was the Romans capital during the occupation. Monuments that are certainly worth a visit, they represent every civilization that ever settled in Alcudia. Although the main attraction of this town has to be the port area, from here you can get day boat trips to secluded beaches. There is also a wonderful Sunday market. The towns compact rows of narrow streets are lined with shops, which are packed with traditional goods.

The best way to visit the old town is to park on the south side and to walk around the walls, where eventually you will come the towns bullring which is over a 100 years old!

Although Alcudia is situated in the north, it weather is still warm. The islands mild temperatures and the low rain rate make it a perfect beach destination. The tourist season begins in May and ends in October. In Summer the average temperature is 23º Celsius. Rain is an almost unknown phenomenon during Summer, it’s not often you even see a cloudy day. The rainy season is throughout the Winter, but even then rain is not common!

If a beach holiday is what you where looking for then Alcudia has a lovely beach, it is proud of and rightly so of its 7 km of curving white beach that gently shelves into the sea and has thatched beach huts and sun beds, palm trees, along the front many bars, cafes and restaurants, also you will find a wide variety of water sports. In the bay the water is shallow,  which makes it popular with families that have small children.

The nightlife in Alcudia is lively although not rowdy. It centres around the many bars and pubs all of which have a wide variety of entertainment, from bands, karaoke, sports etc. The nightlife and entertainment is family based until about midnight then the party goers take over! There are a few night-clubs for those who want to keep partying the night away, these are lively but you will rarely find trouble in and are a fun night out!

Alcudia has without any doubt adapted to cater for the mass British tourism. Here you can buy your daily British newspapers, drink pints of bitter, watch the football on satellite TV, and even sit down at a restaurant that serves genuine fish, chips and English sausages! However there are still some more Spanish traditional places to eat and drink. The old fishing village of Porte D'Alcudia situated at the northern end of the beach. There are restaurants and gift shops which line the sea front and have more traditional, Spanish style shops and cafés on the street behind. Here there are some excellent sea food restaurants, that are well worth seeking out, as they are tucked away in the back streets!

Accommodation is easy to come by in Alcudia, Mallorca / Majorca, In the lovely town and on its outskirts, there are many excellent hotels, whether you are looking for value for money and a basic hotel, somewhere just to lie your head at night or a really luxurious hotel with an abundant of  facilities where there is no need to leave the hotel if you don't want to! There are also plenty of Apartments and Villas to rent out whether privately or in a complex, again these can be basic with enough to keep you comfortable on your vacation in Mallorca / Majorca or extremely luxurious - home to home, style. With Villas that have loads of land, private pools and other facilities that you would expect to find in a home and villas / apartments in complex's with lots of communal amenities like you would expect to find in a hotel.

The airport, Son Sant Joan is situated in the south of the islands, just outside the capital of the island, Palma. A flight to Mallorca is only between 2 to 2 and a half hours from the UK. As you are flying into Majorca, the first landmark you will see on the final approach before landing will be the magnificent 14th Century Gothic cathedral at nearby Palma, and the sight of it from the air never ceases to take your breath away.

Mallorca / Majorca is such a magnificent island you would be mad to visit for your holiday and not explore it! and what better way than in your own rented car?! Hiring a car for a couple of days and going exploring is a brilliant day out, some areas on the island have such beauty that it will take your breath away! The little towns and villages are all easily accessible with decent roads throughout the island. Mopeds are also another means for travelling and exploring the island. These are also available for hire from as little as around 15 euros per day, but you should take extra precautions in Mallorca / Majorca on the roads with a lot of holiday makers frequently involved in accidents because they are either drinking or generally excited and having fun on their holiday that they aren’t taking due care.

If staying in Alcudia, then I am sure you will have a fabulous holiday and find plenty or as little as you want to do!
