Barcelona Airport (BCN) Barcelona's International Airport (BCN) is located 12 kilometres South East of Barcelona in the municipality of El Prat de Llobregat. It is Spain's second ranked airport in terms of passenger traffic & amongst the ten busiest in Europe. In excess of 24,500,000 passengers passed through it in 2004; with numbers rising year on year. The airport is fast becoming a major hub for international travel with 14% of passengers using it as a connection platform. As a result much investment has gone into the improvement of business facilities, & the airport now operates a wireless internet service in many of its public zones, in addition to meeting rooms & other services. The airport itself consists of three terminals; with 12,500 car parking spaces, around 30 airline sales offices, a multitude of retail establishments, over 20 food outlets, banks, & much more. The airport (in 2004) employed 7,900 people directly & contributed over 1.51 billion euros to the Catalan economy. Expansion plans are already afoot. Bus There are bus stops outside terminals A, B, & C with a number of routes operating. Many services run to Plaza de Cataluyna, Plaza de Espana, & Sants Station in the centre of Barcelona. Nearby Tarragona & Andorra are well connected from here, with buses stopping at many smaller towns along the way. It is also possible to catch a circular bus between terminals at the airport. Train Catching a train to Barcelona from here is very fast. Connection to the nearby Cercanias station from the passenger terminal is made via moving sidewalks. Trains run to Sants Station (17 mins), Plaza de Cataluyna (23 mins), Arc de Triomf (26 mins), & Clot Arago (30 mins) stations. Taxi Taxi ranks are in operation from all three terminals. Barcelona's official black & yellow taxi's operate a meter system & are generally affordable. There is a small surcharge for luggage, & tipping is customary.
