Barcelona Museums & Galleries Barcelona's past dates back thousands of years, leaving it with a rich cultural heritage, & much to preserve. Added to this is the city's architectural uniqueness (in particular the modernist areas), & the high quantity of acclaimed artists that have resided here (Picasso, Miro etc). The result is that there are a lot of museums & galleries present, covering a wide range of subject matter. They are on the whole well run & affordable. Picasso Museum - One of Barcelona's most popular tourist attractions, it houses many important works from the artists early career onwards (totalling over 3,500), as well as some well known masterpieces... Gaudi Museum - The official museum on the man himself housed in Can Muntaner house; within the walls of Guell Park. It features Gaudi designed furniture, decorations, drawings, & portraits & busts of the architect... Barcelona History Museum - Located in the Palau Comtal (Count's Palace) on the Plaza del Rei it houses an array of archeological artifacts from the Roman period right through to more modern objects... Maritime Museum - Located in the Port Vell harbour area, it inhabits part of the ancient Royal Shipyards of Barcelona. Includes several historic boats & various other types of maritime treasures... Miro Foundation - Dedicated to works by the famous artist. It houses over 11,000 pieces; including 240 paintings, 175 sculptures, 9 textiles, 4 ceramics, almost complete graphical works, & around 8,000 drawings... Barbier Mueller Museum of Pre Colombian Art - Houses one of the world's most prestigious collections of ceramics, sculptures, fabrics, & ritual objects from the pre-hispanic cultures of Meso America, Central America, Andean America, & the Amazon regions... Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art - Dedicated to collecting & preserving pieces of contemporary art from around the world. Displays & exhibitions are recycled on a regular basis...
