Barcelona Restaurants Barcelona's cuisine is based on similar principles to many Spanish cities, that of traditional Mediterranean cuisine; which means lots of fish, meat, & vegetables cooked in the best quality olive oil. The thing that sets Barcelona apart is that it is a more cosmopolitan city than most. As a major port, industry centre, & tourist attraction, the city has been trading recieipes & catering for an international audience for many years. This has lead not only to international brand eateries, but to a diversification of its own homegrown offerings. Some of the world's most renowned chef's have settled in Barcelona, so those looking for a dining experience should find it easily attainable. Anyone who has spent any time in Spain will know that the day quite literally revolves around food & eating. Dining out is a popular pastime, & prices are usually reasonable enough for the average person to do this several times per week. As a result there are a multitude of restaurants & cafes to be found; serving traditional fare alongside international cuisine. Prices can vary dramatically, but suffice to say there are so many affordable dining options serving good food, that there should be something for almost any budget. Mealtimes in Spain differ from those of other European countries. Lunchtime is usually taken at around 2pm, while the evening meal is at more like 10pm. Of course restaurants are often open throughout the day & evening, but do not expect a lively atmosphere until around these times.
