Blanes Tourist / Tourism The Mediterranean town of Blanes is a popular tourist hot spot for Spanish holiday makers, as well as those from other European nations. It's continued popularity has a lot to do with it's many kilometres of blue flag sandy beaches flanked by countryside of outstanding beauty. This has been the case since the 1950's, when the major contributor to the town's economy switched from fishing to the tourist trade. This led to the doubling of it's resident population in just fifteen years. Many hotel & apartment complexes were built along the seafront, which today remains the major attraction here & boasts three blue flag sandy beaches. Blanes also prides itself in offering it's visitors a taste of real Spain, with traditional fiestas & street markets taking place, as well as the vibrant family friendly atmosphere that is present on warm summer evenings. Looking beyond Blanes itself the surrounding countryside is an attraction in it's own right. This varied terrain is ideal for farming, while at the same time favoured amongst those who travel to the area to participate in adventure sports, from hiking & mountain biking to rock climbing & skiing.
