Cala Millor Holidays

Cala Millor in Mallorca / Majorca is a lovely holiday destination, throughout the summer during peak season you will find many British and other European tourists visiting the island.

Cala Millor is a brilliant tourist resort, which is located along the east coast of Mallorca or as some spell and pronounce it Majorca! Cala Millor is the largest tourist development in the east of the island, its name translates into English as 'the better bay'. The resort is the neighbour of the quieter and more traditional town of Cala Bona, which means 'the good bay'! Majorca / Mallorca is the biggest island of the Balearic islands lying off the south east coast of mainland Spain in the Mediterranean Sea, along with its sister islands of Ibiza and Menorca. The island has stunning scenery and is very beautiful. On Mallorca you will find many ancient towns and villages, wooded hillsides, gentle valleys, towering mountains, olive groves, sheltered bays and coves and marvellous sandy beaches with crystal clear sea.

Accommodation is easy to come by in Cala Millor, you will many excellent hotels, whether you are looking for value for money and a basic hotel, somewhere just to lie your head at night or a really luxurious hotel with an abundant of  facilities where there is no need to leave the hotel if you don't want to! There are also plenty of Apartments and Villas to rent out whether privately or in a complex, again these can be basic with enough to keep you comfortable on your vacation in Cala Millor or extremely luxurious - home to home, style. With Villas that have loads of land, private pools and other facilities that you would expect to find in a home and villas / apartments in complex's with lots of communal amenities like you would expect to find in a hotel.

The airport, Son Sant Joan is situated in the south of the islands, just outside the capital, Palma. The island is small so transfer time from the airport to Cala Millor is generally about two hours. Obviously this can vary depending what time of the day or night it is etc. A flight to Mallorca is only between 2 to 2 and a half hours from the UK. There are many airlines that fly to Mallorca / Majorca from most UK Airports and all over Europe. The prices can really vary, again depending on which airline and what time of year etc but generally you can get a great deal and will not be looking at more than £100 for a return flight. Easyjet do some fantastic deals and occasionally you can even get a flight to Majorca for as little as £10! The flight time is about two / two and a half hours from London airports. As you are flying into Majorca, the first landmark you will see on the final approach before landing will be the magnificent 14th Century Gothic cathedral at nearby Palma, and the sight of it from the air never ceases to take your breath away.

Cala Millor being located in the East of the island has mild temperatures and a low rain rate like the majority of the rest of the island. Which make's this island a perfect beach destination. The tourist season begins in May and ends in October. In Summer the average temperature is 23º Celsius. Rain is an almost unknown phenomenon during Summer, it’s not often you even see a cloudy day. The rainy season is throughout the Winter, but even then rain is not common, especially in the South of the Island!

Nightlife in Cala Millor is certainly the lively resort among the four that are found on the east coast. You will find an array of restaurants of all varieties, bars that have all kinds of entertainment, everything from live bands, cabaret, karaoke, sports, stand up etc. There are also a few disco's for those of you that want to party the night away! This is not ideal place if you are a 'hardcore party goer' - definitely not an 18-30's type holiday but perfect for those who are wanting nights out to finish lovely days on their holidays.

Cala Millor is perfect for those of you that would like a beach holiday as although there are lots of places to visit and attractions to see close by, within the resort itself you will find over 6km of white stretch of beach in a sheltered bay that is protected by two unspoilt headlands. All along the east coast you will find many little coves and unspoilt beaches, Cala Millor's beach is considered to be one of the best on the island, with everything you need from sunbeds and parasol's for hire, water sports including windsurfing schools, restaurants, cafes and beach bars! It has beautiful crystal clear water and gentle sloping sands making ideal for families too!

If an active holiday is what you are looking for then look no further! Mallorca has plenty of attractions and things to see and do! Which are all within a reasonable distance of Cala Millor. Whether your young or old, alone, with the family or with a group of friends - there is something here for everyone. As with all of the Balearic Islands, Cala Millor in Mallorca / Majorca is excellent for all kinds of watersports. Tourists flock here throughout the year and try there hand at the popular sports such as diving, of there are many centres that can teach you and get your certificate, from beginner to advanced! Fishing, is another favourite, again you will find many companies or private charters around the port. These companies will take you out for the day for all sorts of fishing whether it be Big Game fishing or just normal they can provide assistance and generally these companies even put on a little picnic for you! Then there is sailing, windsurfing, skin divers and the usual tourist watersports; ringo's, para sailing, banana boats, water skiing and jet skiing!

Close by to Cala Millor you will find the Auto Safari Zoo, it is on the outskirts of Sa Coma, on the road leading into Cala Millor and Cala Bona. Here you have the choice of driving around the 4km circuit in your own car, or taking the zoo's own mini train, although having seen the damage a group of hungry monkeys can do in a matter of seconds I think the mini train could be the better option! Besides the monkey enclosure, the park also has a number of giraffes, zebra, and elephants along with cages of lions, tigers and other big cats. Getting there from either Cala Bona or Cala Millor is very easy on the parks own courtesy bus which leaves regularly throughout the day from 9am to 7pm. Admission to get to Auto Safari is quite reasonable at only 10€ for adults and 7€ for children.

The resort has a good selection of shops, although they do tend to lack any great variety in the range of products they each shop stocks. If you do venture beyond your sun bed, local markets are held every Friday in nearby Son Servera, further a field to the north in Arta on a Tuesday, and 20km inland at Manacor every Monday.

Public transport isn't all that good around the east coast so I would highly recommend hiring a car if you don't want to pay the tour operator charges. So if all the attractions above are not enough you could just hire a car and go exploring for the day, the island is so magnificent with beauty that it will take your breath away! The little towns and villages are all easily accessible with decent roads throughout the island. Or alternatively you can easily pop over to Majorca's neighbour islands Ibiza and Menorca on one of the regular ferries, this can be another great day out and you get to see 2 islands on 1 holiday! A word of warning though if you have hired a car then check with the company before you go across to another island that you are insured as a lot of insurance will become void as soon as you cross the ferry!

Where you end up staying in Mallorca, I am sure you will have a fabulous holiday and find plenty or as little as you want to do!
