Calafell The Mediterranean town of Calafell is a tourist resort located in the far north of the Costa Dorada. Like other towns on the Costa it transformed its economy from that of a fishing village to focus on tourism in the 1960's. Calafell oldest attraction are its five kilometres of beautiful sandy beaches. The town also boasts a modern marina, contrasting greatly with the historic town centre (complete with  castle) & quaint old fishing quarter. Evening entertainment is a mixed bag, though it is fair to say that this is not the liveliest resort on the Costa Dorada. In recent years residential tourism has found its way to Calafell. However the identity & traditions of the people that live here are still very much alive, & many fiestas take place throughout the town calendar. Local cuisine is another bonus, with affordable good food available everywhere, alongside middle to high end restaurants. The climate in Calafell is welcoming for the majority of the year; highs reach 28°C during the hottest months, & average temperatures are at 7-10°C during the winter.
