Castellon Fiestas Spanish towns and cities are famous for their fiestas and the town of Castellon is no exception. Many fiestas (especially the larger ones) correspond to particular periods of the town's history. The best advice we can give for those planning their holiday at fiesta time is to contact the relevant tourist office.
Lasting for 8 days between the 10th and 18th of March the Fiesta de Mary Magdalene is one of the largest and most popular in the city. It commemorates the moving of the town by King Jaime I of Aragon in the 13th century. Celebrations involve much in the way of costume, music, dance, and of course fireworks. There is also a pilgrimage with flower offering to the Hermitage of Mary Magdalene, which still stands at the site of Castellon's former location. The 23rd and 24th of June are given over to the celebration of the Fiesta de San Juan. Marking the summer solstice this festival is dominated by the burning of large bonfires on the beaches of Castellon.
