Ciudad Rodrigo The town of Ciudad Rodrigo is one of the oldest settlements on the Iberian peninsular, and was once inhabited by Neolithic man. Often seen as the second jewel of the province (behind Salamanca itself) many traces of past civilisation can still be seen, from the historic old quarter, to monuments such as the Tres Columnas; built to mark the conquest of the town under Roman occupation. In addition an impressive Cathedral and a castle dominate it's skyline. Perhaps surprisingly Ciudad Rodrigo has a small population, with less than 15,000 people living in its vicinity.
