Welcome to El Cotillo Tourist Attractions

In the North west of the island you will find the quaint resort of El Cotillo which is where you will find an abundant of natural tourist sightseeing attractions - the islands beautiful diverse landscape from miles of white sandy beaches with crystal blue sea lapping onto them, miles of amazing white sand dunes, tropical flaura and fauna, barren mountainous land and close by to the north of the island is the idyllic island of Lobos and the livelier island of Lanzarote!

Other than these natural attractions there are not any theme parks or water parks the typical 'tourist attractions' anywhere on the island - which would normally find in such a popular tourist holiday location.

The attraction behind this resort is the amazingly beautiful lagoons and beaches along the coastline of El Cotillo some accessed by foot and some you have to drive to get too and occasionally these tracks will get that rough that only 4 wheel drives are recommended to use them!

The beaches and lagoons themselves are breathtaking with white sand and crystal clear waters - but open and the sun is fierce - for shade you should bring your own parasol or take  natural shade in one of the many lava stones these are also good for wind shelter!!

The ocean here is ideal for experienced surfers and they are a regular sight along the seafront! Although the sea is not very safe for swimmers and tourists as the waves have been known to sink small fishing boats!! It is recommended that you only go in the sea during the summer month when the sea seems calm - the beaches and lagoons are not tourist beaches and therefore as well as having no watersports and activities along them they do not have lifeguards either so stay safe!!

In El Cotillo you will find the old Faro - light house which is at the end of the island point past the lagoons and on the cliffs near the centre you will see round shaped fort - Fortaleza del Tostón - this was built in late 1790's to defend the island against invading pirates!! The village is dedicated to 'Virgin de Buen Viaje' which is the virgin of good travel and you will find these words painted on the cliffs in the old harbour.

The nightlife here is quiet, if you enjoy having lovely food a romantic stroll and sitting quietly outside a bars and watching the world go by then El Cotillo is perfect for you!! You'll find most of the bars in the old harbour which is very picturesque.

There are few small restaurants, cafes and bars dotted along the coastline and beach these are generally serving Spanish food and seafood and although can look a little 'shed' like the food and scenery that these places provide are amazing!!

Close by to the village is the bigger tourist resort of Corralejo - from here you will find loads of great days out and excursions inbcluding getting a ferry to the lovely small island of Lobos and the lively popular island of Lanzarote, plus the sand dunes in the resort and the many watersports available.

The best way of seeing this magnificent resort and the rest of the island is by hiring a car for a day at least and go exploring into many of the wonderful villages and natural beauty of the island!  Fuerteventura has the oldest history and the longest beaches of wonderful white sand of the Canary islands, many used by film crews and fashion shoots - although not as well known as some of the other islands in the Canaries, Fuerteventura is a beautiful island with definitely some of the best beaches in Europe with over 150 of them! You'd be crazy to miss all this! Another way of getting around is by excursion, many companies that are easily found throughout the centre of the resort or any tour operators do day trips to the best sightseeing places on the island and the nearby islands of Lobos and Lanzarote!

So although there isn't loads to do in the way of Theme and Amusement parks, there is plenty to see in the way of natural beauty and places to go visit. Or there is always Golf and Watersports!
