Exploring Pamplona Province Pamplona is not just the name of a city, but also that of a province of which it is the capital. Pamplona province is itself located within the larger autonomous region of Cantabria. The town of Sanguesa is second only to Pamplona in terms of size within the province, and can be found to the east of the city on the banks of the river Aragon. The town of Castillo de Javier is one of the closest to Pamplona at only 11 kilometres. As it's name may suggest it is the site of a castle. The town of Ponte de la Reina can be found to the west of Pamplona in the autonomous region of Navarra. The town of Estella can be found to the west of Pamplona and is at once striking for the 12th century church of San Pedro de la Rua. Tudela is another of the larger cities within the province and is home to an array of services and facilities. The town of Olite has one of the provinces longest histories. Founded by the Romans it became a residence for the Kings of Navarra.
