With a populace of over 15,000 the town of Bejar has become a commercial and administrative centre within the province of Salamanca. The town of Ciudad Rodrigo is one of the oldest settlements on the Iberian peninsular, and was once inhabited by Neolithic man. Often seen as the second jewel of the province. The small town of La Alberca remains relatively unchanged over the years. Visitors will find many overhanging half-timber houses, cobbled streets, and rustic churches. The town of Ledesma is well known throughout the province as a spa town, and it has been this way since the times of Roman occupation. The town of Miranda del Castanar is a heavily walled and fortified town in the province of Salamanca. The town of Alba de Tormes was once the centre of one of Spain's most powerful dukedoms; that of the Dukes of Alba. Numerous reminders of this heritage litter the town. The town of Candelario is a well preserved rural town in the province of Salamanca. Visitors will find many old part timber houses and cobbled streets.
