Exploring Santander Province Santander is not just the name of a city, but also that of a province of which it is the capital. Santander province is itself located within the larger autonomous region of Cantabria. The towns found within the province of Santander are diverse, have a rich history, and many are well worth visiting for the day. See the below links for information:-   Noja The town of Noja is a town with a history that dates back as far as the year 927. This has left it with a great many interesting buildings and other monuments. Isla The town of Isla is widely thought of as being the best coastal destinations on this part of the Costa (that being the Costa Oriental). As such a number of hotels have set up shop in or near the town. Santona The town of Santona has a population of around 12,000 and is located on Spain's Atlantic coast. It is above all else a traditional fishing town. Laredo Another of the Costa Oriental's more prominent towns is Laredo. With a population of over 12,000 it offers visitors numerous attractions spread around a large bay area. Castro Urdiales The town of Castro Urdiales is another popular coastal town on the Costa Oriental. Within it live a population of approximately 23,000 people (2006). Somo The town of Somo is one of the most popular tourist enclaves on the Costa Oriental. This is largely due to its proximity to the regional capital of Santander. Comillas The town of Comillas is a smallish town on the Costa Occidental and within reach of Santander. Comillas is the seat of power for the ancient fiefdom of Comillas Suances The town of Suances is another popular coastal town on the Costa Occidental near Santander. Sought after for its beautiful sandy beaches. Santanilla de Mar The town of Santanilla de Mar has a populace of just 3,500 and is located just 31 kilometres from the regional capital of Santander.
