Exploring Valencia Valencia is not just the name of a city, but also that of a province of which it is the capital. Valencia province is itself located within the larger Valencian autonomous community. The towns found around Valencia are diverse, have a rich history, and many are well worth visiting for the day. With a populace of just under 20,000 the town of Alboraya is heavily involved in agriculture. With a populace of around 10,000 the town of L'Alcudia is situated on the banks of the River Xuquer. With a populace of around 40,000 the town of Alzira was once a prosperous Moorish trading outpost. With a populace of around 9,000 the town of Bunol is best known for the annual fiesta known as La Tomatina. With a populace of around 20,000 the town of Carcaixent is located some 40 kilometres south of Valencia. With a populace of around 20,000 the town of Cullera is situated approximately 40 kms south of Valencia. With a populace of around 7,000 the town of Cheste is approximately 26 kms from Valencia. With a populace of just over 5,000 the town of Enguera is growing in popularity amongst agro-tourists. With a populace of just under 12,000 the town of Godella is a more modern looking town than many of its neighbours. With a populace of around 20,000 the pretty town of Lliria is best known for its musical tradition. Though not large in size and with a populace of just over 40,000 the town of Mislata has grown from that of a small village. In its earlier life the town of Requena was a heavily fortified Moorish town. Much still exists to confirm this. Sueca is of Moorish origin and clearly displays evidence of this heritage in its whitewashed flat roofed buildings, arches, and more. Even though it holds its own mayoral elections and is officially a standalone town today Torrent is in danger of being swallowed by Valencia. With over 25,000 inhabitants the town of Xativa is an attractive place. It has been valued for thousands of years, and boasts many ancient structures including a castle.
