Fuerteventura has one Airport that is found in the middle of Fuerteventura island. The name is simply Fuerteventura Airport.

The first thing you will find when arriving at the airport is the arrivals hall, sometimes connected by a tunnel from the aeroplane, but mostly, especially during peak season when you land you will be shuttled to arrivals and passport control by a bus. You will find the hall located on the ground floor of the main terminal building. Once through passport control and in the arrivals hall you will find eight baggage carousels one of which is for special luggage, car hire offices, tourist information, tour operators, cafeteria, lost luggage offices and a cash machine! It is small and easy to get through so you will be able to start your holiday stress free!

The departures is the next thing you will come across in the airport. Passengers check in is located on the ground floor of the main terminal building, after check in you should then make your way up to the first floor for security and departures where you can wait to board the plane.

Passengers can access all flight information via the TV monitors and screens that provide details of the times and indicate the respective check-in desks and boarding gates for passengers.

The check-in area, has thirty-four desks, one of which is for special baggage, a permanent passenger information service and a passenger service and ticket sales office of Iberia, Islas Airways, Spanair plus others, tour operator representatives, a self-service cafeteria, a cash machine, a lottery outlet, a pharmacy, a first aid unit and the shopping area. The departures area houses various shops and restaurants and a cash machine. You can also enjoy the two large open terraces with a recreation area for children and an ice-cream parlour, as well as the glazed observation deck.

Fuerteventura Airport is the first airport in Spain and the first building in the Canary islands that has been recognised by the Department of Employment and Social Affairs at the Canary Island Government and given the International Accessibility Symbol for the terminal, car park and accesses of the airport. There were many actions taken to obtain this certificate these were:

  • Signalling on glass doors and panels with red stripes 5 centimetres wide, this being the colour best perceived by the visually impaired.

  • Arm supports on the toilets in the passenger terminal for better incorporation of disabled users.

  • Sciatic supports next to the groups of seats.

  • Emergency intercoms connected to the safety control centre in toilets and lifts and sound signals in the latter.

  • Open and close bars on the toilet doors for the disabled in order to make access easier for travellers in wheelchairs.

  • Text telephones in the terminal with keyboards and visual screen for people with hearing problems.

  • Handrails on the ramps for better accessibility by the disabled.

  • Signalling on the edges of steps in yellow for the visually impaired.

  • Installing of special warning paving strips in front of doors, stairways and lifts.

  • Construction of transverse depressions with non-slip tiles in a different texture to the pavement with two bands of red tiles, 1 metre wide, as signalled paving.

  • Installation of parking spaces for the disabled with horizontal and vertical signalling.

There are three food facilities and restaurants in total, and eleven other shops that include Travel, accessories, local craftes, a pharmacy, toys, fashion, lottery, florist, jewellery, souvenirs, wine & spirits and tobacco in your duty free!! The bars and restaurants include the La Naranja a juice bar, Ibense Bornay an ice cream parlour, Dorada a bar and Bill Bentley a bar also, all are open 24 hours a day for your convenience.

There are seventy-two different tour operators that are based in Fuerteventura and have offices or representatives here at the airport, these will be able to help if something arises that means you have to go home early or maybe stay in Fuerteventura longer they will be able to change your flight or you will be able to buy a new one.

There is three banking services in the terminal.

The other services available at the airport are information centre's, Guardia Civil (Civil Guard), Lost Property, Luggage control, play area, meeting point and first aid.
