Gay Barcelona Barcelona has a vibrant gay scene, it is even known in some circles as the gay capital of Europe. It certainly has a very gay friendly attituden & with a wealth of sights, things to do, evening enertainment options, & an excellent climate, it is hardly surpirising so many people are taking an interest. The main gay area in Barcelona is known (unofficially) as the Gayxample, which is to be found in the L'Eixample zone in the heart of the city. This is the site for many of Barcelona's main attractions, & houses the vast majority of the modernist architecture that the city is so famous for. There is also a good variety of accommodation here, & almost limitless dining options, cafes, bars, & nightclubs. In particular there are a concentration of gay bars & shops around the Calle Balmes & Calle Diputacio streets. However be warned, the Spanish like to eat late with most people heading out for an evening meal at around 10pm. As a result bars do not get going until 11/12pm, & don't even think about going to a club until 2am. Axel Hotel - Those looking for gay friendly accommodation in Barcelona need look no further than the Axel Hotel. Located in the heart of the Gayxample area in a grand period building, this chic & modern hotel offers its guests a variety of well presented services & amenities.
