Girona Airport (GRO) Girona International Airport (GRO) is the Costa Brava's resident airport, located some 40 km from the coast & 12 km from Girona itself. Air traffic here has exploded in recent years especially with the introduction of budget airline routes (passenger figures in 2004 stood at 3,000,000). However Girona airport still plays second fiddle to the much larger airport at Barcelona & is often seen (& marketed by airlines) as an alternative to flying there, though it is 100 km away. Girona airport is most used by passengers travelling to the coastal resorts of the Costa Brava (Lloret de Mar, Tossa de Mar etc), & by skiing enthusiasts on their way to Andorra. The airport is well connected with central Girona by bus or taxi, where a train service operates to Barcelona & beyond. Bus There are bus stops located outside the main terminal building. There are regular bus services to central Girona & Barcelona, as well as some of the main resorts on the Costa Brava, & Andorra. Train Although there is no direct train service operating from Girona airport, it is possible to catch a train from the centre of Girona itself (just 12 km away). From here there are frequent services to Barcelona & beyond. Taxi There is a taxi rank in operation at Girona airport. Sporting official black & yellow colouring taxi's operate a meter system & are generally affordable. There is a small surcharge for luggage, & tipping is customary.
