Girona Holidays The Ancient town of Girona on the Costa Brava is a great place to travel to for your holidays. Firstly it is easy to get to via its own international airport; Girona Airport (GRO) offering flight options from many European & national destinations. Those intending on visiting other parts of Spain or indeed travelling into the south of France will find Girona an ideal base to do this from. This is mainly from an accessibility point of view, but also because of the choice of accommodation on offer. They have each in turn left behind a cultural & architectural heritage making Girona distinct from that of many other Spanish towns & cities. This is further accentuated by its size, as in 2005 there were still well under 100,000 inhabitants. This means Girona is easily traversed on foot, & as a result a number of popular walking routes/tours have been created that join together the cities main sights & attractions. These include the Call (old Jewish quarter), which is one of the best preserved in Europe & certainly one of the most beautiful parts of Girona. Some Moorish landmarks are still present, including the bath-house, gardens, & a wider influence in Girona's overall architectural style. Churches, convents, monasteries, & a cathedral can also be found; many of which are very old & of historical importance. Finally the modernist movement left it's mark, with a number of fine urban palaces dotted around the centre, each of them unique in character & style. In fact some of the most central Girona Beaches are blue flag rated & kept meticulously clean. The majority of the most popular offerings are made up of golden sand, but there are pebbled beaches & rocky alcoves for those who prefer to indulge in a spot of snorkeling. Girona Weather is in the main welcoming all year round. With average highs of 29°C (82°F) in the summer months & 13°C (55°F) in the winter, it is possible to enjoy an outdoor life at any time of the year. However be aware during the winter season low temperatures can be a good deal cooler than in Spain's southern regions.
