Gran Canaria Beaches

Gran Canaria has an abundant of attractions and sightseeing places for you to visit whilst vacating there. Depending whether you are planning an active holiday or relaxing beach holiday, Gran Canaria has something for everyone!!!

If you are looking for a relaxing beach holiday or to visit the beach during you active holiday then look no further, Gran Canaria has a variety of beaches for you to enjoy, they are exquisite, almost 60km of the 236km of the coastal line around the island are beaches or various descriptions and some are completely unique!

At the impressive Maspalomas beach, you can find 250 hectares of sand dunes that are right next to the sea, some find it the most beautiful beach on the island! Maspalomas Beach is divided into four sections, The first section being the best for the children and families, the second and the fourth are normally designated nudist beaches and the third is popular for the gay community. Along the beach there is lots of things to do that will keep you entertained! including the usual sports and leisure facilities, plenty of beach bars and restaurants, shops and if thats not enough close by are some of Gran Canaria's best Waterparks and Theme parks!

There is a brilliant beach in the largest tourist area of the island, Playa del Ingles, it has some of the most beautiful beaches of the island either side! Together with Maspalomas and San Agustín it is the biggest holiday complex in the whole of Spain!! This beach has fun and sun as it offers all kinds of leisure and sports activities such as sailing, windsurfing, jet-ski, water skiing plus lots, lots more !! Plus many beach bars and restaurants, whatever you feel like doing... you can find it there!

The lively Playa de las Canteras beach that is located in the capital of the island , Las Palmas! This stretch of beach is a lagoon with ideal temperate waters, the  3km long cove with a 'La Barra' - which is a natural reef that is about 200 meters long located some hundred metres off the beach. Playa de las Canteras is also a haven for all watersports at the south of the beach where the natural rocks barrier  finish the waves come crashing making it ideal for surfers too! The beach at Las Canteras is lined with all kinds of shops, bars and restaurants.

San Augustin is the first beach along the southeast coast, and not as well known as its neighbouring beaches therefore it is a lot less lively and has a quieter and more relaxing atmosphere! The beach is some 700 metres long, the sand is a little darker than Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles, it is on a slight slope and well protected from the waves also which makes it excellent conditions for those who would like to go snorkeling or diving! There are some beautiful sea-food restaurants along the front here too.

The busy resort of Puerto Rico has one of Gran Canaria's more favoured beaches with tourists of all kinds, particularly though with British Families, although it can be overcrowded during high season, it can be lovely and quiet in low season. Puerto Rico’s beach is a made up of golden sand that has been imported from the Sahara, it is an ideal playground for children. In a lush tropical garden with exotic plants and flowers, just set back from the beach itself, you will find two lidos. These are renowned for being the sunniest spot of the island, it is a true paradise for sun worshippers! It is also known for the many water sports activities that it offers including sailing, water-skiing, diving and windsurfing to leisure excursions such as, Big-game fishing, pleasure boat trips along the coast, dolphin watching cruises or a trip in a glass bottom boat!

There are a lot more small and unspoilt beaches or small fishing port's with little beaches, or long stretches of golden fine sand that aren't as well known with tourists and that cover the coastal line of the island including; the concealed and unspoilt beach of Güigüi, Playa de los Amadores, Puerto de Morgan, Playa de las Alcaravaneras and many more!

If your into your watersports then the Canary Islands is a brilliant place to go, Gran Canaria has held the PWA World Classic Grand Prix. With several windsurfing and diving school's if your a beginner or want to brush up on your skills you can. It is also ideal for surfing, bodyboarding, deep sea fishing, Parascending, Jet and water skiing, sailing and has  great coves for snorkeling and shipwrecks and marine reserves for scuba diving, there are also many diving schools across the island in the main resorts where you can take diving course's from beginners to the more advanced.

As you can see there is a wonderful array of beaches for you to choose from in Gran Canaria, Just be warned most beaches in the popular tourist resorts are during the high seasons absolutely packed out! Also a lot of these beaches can be divided up unknowingly and you could suddenly find yourself at a nudist beach or a popular beach for the gay community! Whatever your preference for your holiday, you will never be stuck for anything to do and far from bored!
