Gran Canaria Gardens

There is enormous variety of plant life on the island of Gran Canaria, although the south is relatively dry and barren. Many people that visit the island take advantage of the many excursions that are organised to take in the immense Flora and Fauna! This means the Plant species and the animal species.

Cactualdea - Is a cactus park, very popular with tourists it boasts thousands of cacti imported from countries like Mexico, Madagascar, Guatemala and Bolivia, set between palms, dragon trees and aloes. There is also a model Guanche Cave there and a nice restaurant that serves typical Canary dishes. Other points of interest are a large amphitheatre that is used for Luchas Canarias, Canary wrestling matches, and a wine cellar!!!

Cactualdea is open all year round, everyday from 10am till 6pm. It is located in Carretera del Hoyo -Tocodomán - San Nicolás de Tolentino.

Jardin Botanico - A botanical garden, established in 1952 by Swede Eric Sventenius, who remained the gardens director until he died. The majority of the Garden is lad out on the slopes of Barranco de Guiniguada and although is a small wooden bridge at point in the Garden that will take you to the flatter areas and caves it is not easily accessible for wheelchair users.

The botanical garden is mainly dedicated to all flowers and plants that are found on most of the seven islands of the archipelago, inclusive of the islands belonging to the so-called ‘Macaronesia Islands’, which are Madeira, the Azores and Cape Verde.

There are many other features including Jardin de las Islas - which means Islands Garden and plenty more plant species at the garden too and it is a lovely day out, a true paradise for botanists and nature lovers – absolutely worth a visit! You will find Jardin Botanico located in La Calzada. It is open all year round, daily from 9am until 6pm, although closed New Years Day and Good Friday.
