If you are planning more of an active holiday there are plenty of places for you to visit and things to do in Gran Canaria! Including the 11 Theme parks in total that spread across the island!

There are three Water parks, of which are all located in the south of the Island,

*Aquasur - This is a brilliant day out for all the family! It is the biggest water park in Gran Canaria covering as space of 130,000 sq metres. The pools alone cover an area of 5,300 sq metres and it boasts 33 slides and 13 fun attractions such as Surf Beach, Congo River, Crazy Race, Kamikaze, Rapids, Winder, Aquamania, Twister, the exotic mini-park Polinesia, children and adults swimming pools, mini-golf ... plus many more. Mamut and Adrenalina are two new super attractions, which were only recently opened in the park.

There are plenty of facilities at Aquasur including; Self-service restaurants, a pizzeria, coffee bars, shops, changing rooms, extensive garden areas and free parking.

Open all year round, everyday from 10am till 6pm. It is located near Maspalomas on the same road as Palmitos Park.

*Ocean Park - This is the smallest Water park on the island situated just 300 metres from the Amusement park Holiday world in the South of the island, Maspalomas. Only covering an an area of some 25,000 sq. meters with around 13 different slides, several swimming pools including a large wave pool. Although there is enough attractions to keep all of the family entertained and busy all day!

There are plenty of facilities at Ocean Park including; restaurants, snack bars and shops.

Open all year round, everyday from 10am till 6pm. Located at Campo Internacional Maspalomas.

*Aqua Park - Is a great day out for all the family if you fancy a day off the beach! Situated just behind the commercial centre in one of the main resorts of the island, Puerto Rico. The park offers several slides, here you will find the longest and fastest slide of all the water parks on the island – kamikazes and different pools!

Facilities at Aqua Park include a kindergarten and a restaurant that is really good value for money.

Open all year round, everyday from 10am till 5.30pm in the winter season and until 6.30pm in the summer peak season! Located on the outskirts of Puerto Rico.

In total there are eight theme and amusement parks, which include; 

*Palmitos Park - This is a subtropical Oasis featuring over 200 species of birds and other attractions such as an Aquarium, Butterfly house which is the biggest in of all Europe, Cacti Garden, Orchid House, Parrot and Bird of Prey shows, Gibbon Island and a Crocodile house plus many more!

The park is open all year round, everyday from 9.30am till 6pm. It is located Palmitos Park road near Maspalomas. 

*Holiday World - Is a leisure and amusement park, recently been completely rebuilt and opened. The park boasts a traditional fun fair featuring numerous exciting attractions such as a classic 27 meters high Ferris wheel, a roller coaster, a laserdrome, shooting stalls, seal and parrot shows and many more things to entertain the whole family.

It also comprises a leisure centre including a bowling alley, amusement arcades, a ‘wellness centre’ with a health spa and a high-tech gym, various cafés and restaurants as well as two night clubs (one of which is a salsa club). The park is already extremely popular and attracts many people to enjoy its facilities day and night time throughout the year! The major attractions are only open in the evening for daytime use you will find a large park featuring a boating lake, children playgrounds, pony riding and a karting track&ldots; plus many more!

The park is open all year round everyday, all day, major attractions open from 6pm till 12am! Although the nightclubs are open until the early hours of the morning! You will find Holiday World at the Campo Internacional in Maspalomas.

*Sioux City - Is a replica of a American wild west town covering over 320,000 sq metres you will find many wonderful attractions including, gunfights, rustic barbecues, saloon gals, sheriffs and can-can girls, 'duel until death', 'bank robbery', 'saloon fight', 'town square hanging', 'Indian rain dance' and Mexican acrobats performing stunts involving lassos, whips and knives&ldots; to name but a few! Of course where you find Cowboys you will find Indians and Sioux City is no exception in the park you will also find an Indian reservation. For the kiddies if everything else isn't already enough you will find a small zoo too! It really is a great fun day out for all!

Sioux City is open all year round, Tuesday to Sunday (Closed Mondays) from 10am till 5pm! It is located in Cañón del Aguila – San Agustín.

*Mundo Aborigen - Is Located overlooking the Barranco de Fataga, which is the biggest and most dramatic gorge on the island, The Mundo Aborigen, which means Aborigines' world, is a reconstruction of an ancient Canary village devoted entirely to the Guanche way of life.  Giving its visitors a genuine insight to pre-Hispanic culture! A small archaeological museum has also been created on the site too. Mundo Aborigen has been declared ‘Place of Cultural, Social and Historical Interest’ by the local government.

Mundo Aborigen is open all year round, everyday from 9am till 6pm. It is located from the road from Playa del Inglés to Fataga – San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

*Parque de los Cocodrilo - a Crocodile Park, Gran Canaria's only zoological park, opened to the public in 1988, this is a park that is devoted purely to adopting ill treated animals, buying them privately and from circuses, it started with just a few crocodiles and now they have the  largest collections in Europe! Among the animals are also, Monkeys and Tigers, it is family run and its proceeds from the entry fee go to the upkeep of the park! Due to the high amount of animals still being confiscated, Cocodrilo Park is becoming too small and shows signs of needing more living space for accommodating them – but even under these confined conditions, the animals are much happier in these surroundings and are even breeding. It really is a lovely day out for all!

The Park is open all year round, Sunday to Friday from 10am till 6pm. It is located in Carretera del Hoyo - Tocodomán - San Nicolás de Tolentino.

*Cactualdea - Is a cactus park, very popular with tourists it boasts thousands of cacti imported from countries like Mexico, Madagascar, Guatemala and Bolivia, set between palms, dragon trees and aloes. There is also a model Guanche Cave there and a nice restaurant that serves typical Canary dishes. Other points of interest are a large amphitheatre that is used for Luchas Canarias, Canary wrestling matches, and a wine cellar!!!

Cactualdea is open all year round, everyday from 10am till 6pm. It is located in Carretera del Hoyo -Tocodomán - San Nicolás de Tolentino.

*Reptilandia Park - Is a Reptile Park with more than a 150 species of reptiles in big outdoor terrariums plus three different indoor exhibition rooms. Animals include snakes, lizards, frogs, iguanas, tortoises, crocodiles, caimans and alligators. It also hosts tarantulas, scorpions as well as monkeys, lemurs and parrots plus many more...

Reptilandia Park is all year round, daily from 11am till 5.30pm. It is located in Parque Rural de Amagro – between Gáldar and Agaete.

*Pueblo Canario - Is a Canary Village, designed and built in the 1930s by the brothers Néstor and Miguel Fernandez de la Torre to interest tourists in island culture, it is a a complex of several traditionally built island houses with the famous wooden carved balconies forming a typical Canary village with gates, turrets and an atrium. The village boasts a large central square – where twice a week enthusiastic folklore shows take place – surrounded by shops selling local handicrafts and the Bodegón (wine bar) Canario, where you can taste several dishes of the typical Canary. There is also a museum and tourist centre there. It is well worth a visit to experience true Canarian culture!

Pueblo Canario is all year round, Tuesday to Saturday from 10am till 8pm and Sunday from 10.30am till 2.30pm! It is located in Parque Doramas – City of Las Palmas.
