Royal Chapel Granada's Royal Chapel (the Capilla Real) can be found adjacent to the Cathedral, just off the Gran Via in central Granada. It was commissioned by the Catholic Monarchs of Spain; Queen Isabel of Castille & King Ferdinand of Aragon. Built between 1504 & 1521 it was to be both their burial site & the site for Spanish monarchs to be laid to rest from then on; though the latter did not happen as intended. The chapel was the last Gothic church to be built in Spain; as Isabel & Ferdinand preferred that style over the more modern Renaissance architecture of the day. It was built on the site of a large Mosque; so large in fact that the Royal Chapel, Cathedral, & two other buildings share the spot it once occupied.
