| Ibiza Town Tourist Information Ibiza Town is the capital of Ibiza island, and lives up to all expectations. The cosmopolitan city is situated on the south east side of Ibiza by the sea on a hill. You can easily while away a day walking around the windy cobbled streets in the Dalt Vila (the old Town which is a UNESCO world heritage site), looking at the picturesque buildings, designer shops, and market stalls. There are many cafes, restaurants, and bars where you can people watch and simply soak up the vibrant atmosphere. There is a monument located on the harbor of Ibiza town which is well worth a visit. Honoring the Pirates that defended Ibiza Island from the sea in the 18th century. Not built until the 20th Century the large statue is featured in the San Salvador Fiesta that which is held here annually in August. Around Ibiza town are the city walls, or in Spanish they are called the Murallas de Ibiza. Built in the 16th Century around the Capital of Ibiza town. Located in the old town the walls were built as a defence against attacks by the Turkish, and took 40 years complete. They are very well preserved, and have been classed as a world Heritage Site. There are many entrances but the main entrance is called in Spanish the Portal de Ses Taules. There are a couple of Roman statues, and great views, well worth a visit. Just outside of Ibiza town there are many sporting activities to choose from there are two waterparks, two golf courses, many scuba diving schools, abseiling, horse riding, mountain bike riding, yoga, health spa, and much more please see the relevant buttons along the left hand side and button of this page for details and directions. At the top of the city is the Castle and Cathedral de Santa Maria with impressive gothic architecture it was built sometime between the 14th-16th century, over an Arab mosque, then renovated in the 18th century. Illuminated at night it is quite spectacular to look at. The Archaeology Museum is very easily found in the small town of Dalt Vila next to the Cathedral. The Museum used to be Ibiza's government headquarters for 300 years, and it now has a major prehistoric collection of artefacts dating back to the Romans, Carthaginians, and Moors. Admission is free.
