Lloret de Mar Holidays Lloret de Mar is a great place to spend your holidays, it is also conveniently close to Barcelona making it an excellent weekend break destination. Firstly it is located in close proximity to two international airports; Barcelona Airport (BCN), which is Spain's second ranked airport in terms of passenger traffic & amongst the ten busiest in Europe, & Girona Airport (GRO) offering yet more flight options & closer proximity to the Costa's main resorts. This is mainly from an accessibility point of view, but also because of the wide choice of accommodation on offer. Lloret de Mar has been popular since the 1950's when it was opened up for development to attract tourism. The main draw was the areas unspoilt countryside & coastline, considered to be amongst the most beautiful in Spain. Though if you look past the hotels, apartment complexes, swathes of restaurants, & many bars Lloret de Mar itself has a lot to offer. Two good examples of this come in the form of the Roman Sepulchral (a 2nd century Roman burial tower), & the Santa Clotilde Gardens (fantastic modernist & romantic gardens designed in Italian Renaissance style). Lloret de Mar also has some of the best sports facilities around, with almost all types catered for in the town & a good selection of golf courses outside of it. The varied countryside surrounding it is favoured amongst those who travel to the area to participate in adventure sports, from hiking & mountain biking to rock climbing & skiing. One of Lloret de Mar's biggest draws is in the diversity of accommodation on offer. There are a multitude of good quality & affordable options on hotels & rental properties, catering from high-end to budget travel requirements. Also a weekly municipal market is held every Tuesday on Carrer dels Mestres & the side streets around the sports centre. When it comes to beaches Lloret de Mar has some of the best around. It boasts 7 kilometres of coastline with many of the Lloret de Mar Beaches blue flag rated & kept meticulously clean. The majority of the most popular offerings are made up of golden sand, but there are pebbled beaches & rocky alcoves for those who prefer to indulge in a spot of snorkeling. Lloret de Mar's nightlife is reasonably lively. There are easily enough restaurants & bars to keep visitors interested for a couple of weeks.
