The stunning island of Los Gigantes is situated on the west coast of Tenerife. Named after the imposing cliffs (the Giants). You can see these cliffs up close by getting a boat, which are available to hire from the marina!
There is a little black volcanic sand beach here which is cosseted by cliffs and clear waters that is ideal for snorkelling. The picturesque resorts of Puerto de Santaigo and Playa de la Arena, which are neighbours of Los Gigantes and all within a short distance. Playa de la Arena has a bigger although not huge black sand beach which has repeatedly won the European blue flag award! Puerto Santiago in between Playa de la Arena and Los Gigantes has limited beach as it is a small fishing port! The lido in Los Gigantes also provides good sunbathing and swimming facilities.

Los Gigantes is a good base for exploring the island of Tenerife. Close to the Masca Valley, Mount Tiede there is plenty to do and see including; Museums, water sports and whale watching. In the car the south of the island is only 30 minutes away and there are bus rides available to here also, this is where you'll find the Water parks and zoo's! You will find a lot of rental companies based in Los Gigantes.
In the evening Los Giantes and Playa de la Arena have an assortment of Bars and restaurants, The restaurant's in Santiagos bajo due to a lot of Canarian's living here are more local cuisine and Tapas! Although you still will find the typical English and Chinese's!! You can make it as lively or laid back as you like evening out! Although small there are lots of bars and nightclubs here, but if its serious partying you want then you should pop to Playa de las Americas which is only 20km away!!
Playa de la Arena is a modern resort and still has construction work going on around the resort, building more Hotels and Accommodation to buy!
The Carnival that takes place every year the week after Ash Wednesday, is a religious festival, originating back to the pagan festivals in honour of the God Isis and Apis in Egypt. The locals all dress up in an array of colour and brilliant outfits! If your there then why not join in? One word these fiestas normally go on well into the early hours of the morning!
If you are not planning on staying in these resorts then I would highly recommend visiting them during your visit in Tenerife!
