Magdalena Palace Santander's Magdalena Palace was constructed in 1909 as a summer retreat for King Alfonso XIII of Spain and was used by the royal family until the 1930's. In 1977 the palace was handed over to the city and is today used as a headquarters for Santander's Pelayo International University, as well as doubling as a conference centre. The Magdalena Palace's extensive grounds have been turned into a delightful public park looking out across the sea and boasting a number of attractions.
