Malgrat Tourist / Tourism The Mediterranean town of Malgrat is a charming coastal destination well known for its sandy beaches. Smaller & less changed than many of its neighbors Malgrat has managed to retain much of its identity & tradition; with the town centre hosting examples of modernist architecture alongside older churches & squares. It is also worth noting that the town is situated on the Costa Maresme (part of Barcelona's municipality), even though it is often more readily associated with the coastal resorts of the Costa Brava. The arrival of the tourist trade in Malgrat brought with it many hotel & apartment complexes. Tourists need entertaining & to cope with the influx numerous cafes, restaurants, & bars opened up alongside modern retail outlets. Additionally just outside Malgrat is a beautiful mountainous region favoured amongst those who travel to the area to participate in adventure sports; these can vary from hiking & mountain biking to rock climbing & (a little farther on) skiing. In more recent times residential tourism has had an impact, with a steady influx of ex-pats arriving from other European countries & second home owners from other parts of Spain.
