Manresa The town of Manresa is the capital of the Bages region/county within Barcelona province. It is an industrial centre with many textiles, metal, & glass industries. It is a town of a reasonable size, with a populace of over 65,000. As such it boasts all the usual facilities & amenities needed to support a community of this size (shops, restaurants, municipal facilities etc). The town is also home to a number of important churches & a monastery, which are a pilgrimage spot for Catholics & worth visiting. Parts of central Manresa do have a very distinctive look. This is mainly due to the fact that at the time of the Napoleonic wars a volunteer force from the town defeated the French force & forced them into retreat. Unfortunately the retreating army burnt much of Manresa to the ground & it had to be rebuilt using rubble.
