Menedez Pelayo Library The Menedez Pelayo Library in Santander was constructed by the city council specifically to house the Spanish writer Menedez Pelayo's private literary collection. Built after his death in 1912 the building is itself very impressive and was declared a national monument in 1982. The library itself comprises 42,000 books which includes some rare volumes.
