Montoro The town of Montoro is situated on the banks of the Guadalquivir river. This is a delightful town with a beautiful main square, churches, and many winding streets flanked by traditional village shops and other authentic offerings. The town infrastructure is far richer than a populace of 10,000 would usually bring due to an infamous act of selflessness by the women-folk of the village in the 15th century. At that time the women of the village sold off their jewellery to build a bridge across the river to improve trade and communication links with Castile and the rest of Andalucia. This caught the ear and admiration of the Queen of Spain, who granted the village royal privileges until this day. The bridge is also still standing, and is known as Las Donadas after the women who donated the money to build it.
