Oliva Fiestas Spanish towns and cities are famous for their fiestas and the town of Oliva is no exception. Many  fiestas (especially the larger ones) correspond to particular periods of the town's history. The best advice we can give for those planning their holiday at fiesta time is to contact the relevant tourist office.   Being located in the province of Valencia, Oliva celebrates the Las Fallas fiesta in a big way. Taking place in mid March celebrations center around impressive figurines depicting satirical scenes of everyday life. There are also a wide range of other attractions including parades, paella cooking competitions, beauty pageants, music, and lots of fireworks. The last day of the Las Fallas fiesta sees the ritual burning of the figurines on bonfires together with firework displays and intense celebration. Between the 16th and 23rd of July the people of Oliva celebrate the Moros y Christianos (Moors and Christians) fiesta. This commemorates the battles between the Moors and the Christians in Oliva. There are many facets to this fiesta though the grandest events are the parades and mock battles in full costume. As usual there is plenty of food and drink to be had, and fireworks feature throughout. On July 16th local sailors honour their patroness La Virgen del Carmen. Celebrations are centred around the port area where a stage is erected and a feast held.
