Palma Tourist Information

Palma is the capital of Mallorca / Majorca and the rest of the Balearic islands that lay off the south east coast of mainland Spain in the Mediterranean Sea, its sister islands are Ibiza and Menorca.

Mallorca / Majorca is a lovely holiday destination, and for those of you who have never ventured beyond Palma Nova or Magaluf, a visit to Palma will be a real eye opener, and will hopefully demonstrate that there is more to the island than neon lit all night bars, and all day British breakfasts!!! Throughout the summer peak season you will find many British and other European tourists visiting the island. The beautiful island boasts an average of 300 days of sunshine each year.

Its mild temperatures and the low rain rate make of this island a perfect beach destination. The tourist season begins in May and ends in October. In Summer the average temperature is 23º Celsius. Rain is an almost unknown phenomenon during Summer, it’s not often you even see a cloudy day. The rainy season is throughout the Winter, but even then rain is not common, especially in the South of the Island!

Palma, the capital, is located in the south of Mallorca / Majorca, On one side of Palma be sure to find the Mediterranean sea on the other the voluptuous mountains of Serra de Tramuntana. Palma is an old town with a golden atmosphere which complement each other profoundly.

If an active holiday is what you are looking for then look no further! Mallorca has plenty of attractions and things to see and do! Whether your young or old, alone, with the family or with a group of friends - there is something here for everyone. In Palma, there are lots of tourist attractions including many museums, offering you the history, interesting information and facts about Majorca / Mallorca. The history of the island dates back to ancient times and has traces of Roman and Arab civilizations.

Palma's nightlife is brilliant, Palma is packed with bars and dance clubs. For a rocking, laser- and strobe-lit club, you'll have to boogie in Palma. Although Palma is lively it is a lot more civilised than the resort of Magaluf. In Palma you will find many wonderful restaurants that are more traditional to the island rather than being directly aimed at tourists! Plus in the capital you will find many brilliant bars, of all varieties from fun entertainment bars with bands, karaoke, sport etc to bars that you can just chill and watch the world go by. Again you will also find the more Spanish bars in this area too. Then there are the many clubs that play all sorts of music like that of salsa, RnB, pop, dance, funky house etc. Palma also plays host to a few casino's which are great fun for a night out to make a change!

If a beach holiday is what you were hoping for, then Palma has that too! Palma, has some excellent beaches.

Accommodation is easy to come by in Palma, Mallorca / Majorca, In the lovely town and on its outskirts, there are many excellent hotels, whether you are looking for value for money and a basic hotel, somewhere just to lie your head at night or a really luxurious hotel with an abundant of  facilities where there is no need to leave the hotel if you don't want to! There are also plenty of Apartments and Villas to rent out whether privately or in a complex, again these can be basic with enough to keep you comfortable on your vacation in Mallorca / Majorca or extremely luxurious - home to home, style. With Villas that have loads of land, private pools and other facilities that you would expect to find in a home and villas / apartments in complex's with lots of communal amenities like you would expect to find in a hotel.

The airport, Son Sant Joan is situated in the south of the islands, just outside the capital, Palma. A flight to Mallorca is only between 2 to 2 and a half hours from the UK. As you are flying into Majorca, the first landmark you will see on the final approach before landing will be the magnificent 14th Century Gothic cathedral at nearby Palma, and the sight of it from the air never ceases to take your breath away.

Mallorca / Majorca is such a magnificent island you would be mad to visit for your holiday and not explore it! and what better way than in your own rented car?! Hiring a car for a couple of days and going exploring is a brilliant day out, the island is has such beauty that it will take your that some area breath away! The little towns and villages are all easily accessible with decent roads throughout the island. Mopeds are also another means for travelling and exploring the island. These are also available for hire from as little as around 15 euros per day, but you should take extra precautions in Mallorca / Majorca on the roads with a lot of holiday makers frequently involved in accidents because they are either drinking or generally excited and having fun on their holiday that they aren’t taking due care.

If staying in Palma, then I am sure you will have a fabulous holiday and find plenty or as little as you want to do!
