Welcome to Palma Nova Tourist Information
Palma Nova is a brilliant little resort located in the south of Majorca / Mallorca, its neighbour is the lively resort of Magaluf, although Palma Nova is nearly as lively as Magaluf! Just a little tamer, which therefore makes it a more suited and popular destination for families. Although it may be difficult to see now, but Palma Nova was one of the earliest purpose built holiday resorts on the island. The original fishing harbour still remains, but fishing boats are now in the minority when compared to the large expensive yachts that are moored in the nautical club and marina. Mallorca / Majorca is, for some, a lovely holiday destination, throughout the summer peak season you will find many British and other European tourists visiting the island. The beautiful island boasts an average of 300 days of sunshine each year. Palma Nova being located in the south get plenty of this sunshine! Its mild temperatures and the low rain rate make of this island a perfect beach destination. The tourist season begins in May and ends in October. In Summer the average temperature is 23º Celsius. Rain is an almost unknown phenomenon during Summer, its not often you even see a cloudy day. The rainy season is throughout the Winter, but even then rain is not common, especially in the South of the Island! The airport, Son Sant Joan is situated in the south of the islands, just outside the capital, Palma. The island is small so transfer time from the airport to the resort is only about 20 - 30 minutes depending on traffic etc. Flight to Mallorca is only between 2 to 2 and a half hours from the UK. As you are flying into Majorca, the first landmark you will see on the final approach before landing will be the magnificent 14th Century Gothic cathedral at nearby Palma, and the sight of it from the air never ceases to take your breath away. Both Palma Nova and Magaluf have fine sandy beaches with most things to hand! Watersports, glass bottom boat trips, as well as countless shops, bars and restaurants are all located along the wide traffic free promenades. For those people that are on self catering breaks, you will never be more than a few hundred yards from either a McDonalds, Wimpey, Burger King, KFC, Pizza Hut etc, Although if you tire of fast food, in all fairness to Palma Nova, you'll also find a number of more traditional cafes and restaurants along the seafront. Accommodation is easy to come by in Mallorca / Majorca, In the lovely resorts that cover the island, there are many excellent hotels, whether you are looking for value for money and a basic hotel, somewhere just to lie your head at night or a really luxurious hotel with an abundant of facilities where there is no need to leave the hotel if you don't want to! There are also plenty of Apartments and Villas to rent out whether privately or in a complex, again these can be basic with enough to keep you comfortable on your vacation in Mallorca / Majorca or extremely luxurious - home to home, style. With Villas that have loads of land, private pools and other facilities that you would expect to find in a home and villas / apartments in complex's with lots of communal amenities like you would expect to find in a hotel. Nightlife in Palma Nova is designed for the huge numbers of British tourist that come to the resort every year, both Palma Nova and Magaluf have developed numerous English style pubs to target this market. But if you are looking for a little variety then there is always Magaluf, which has many more options for partying till the early hours! The area in and around Magaluf and Palma Nova boasts well over 100 bars. You will also be pleased to note Spanish prices are much more reasonable with the average pint of beer costing you around 2. There will also more than likely be bars offering many drinks promotions. The average meal will cost you around 12, and it is actually more than the average meal if you compare what you get in England for that money. In the Summer breaks you are recommended to make restaurant bookings if you would like to eat at a reasonable time in the evening as Palma Nova and Magaluf are very popular resorts and tend to get particularly busy. From October to around Easter the next year, Palma Nova does go through somewhat of a personality change along with its nightlife. As families and the young groups of party goers' begin to leave the island, Magaluf and Palma Nova are then marketed very strongly towards middle aged couples and others who want to take advantage of winter sunshine holidays. Although many of the cafes and restaurants do remain open, the more lively music bars and nightclubs that you associate with the area, close during the week, and only open again at weekends in response to the small number of stag and hen parties that invade the town.
