Pamplona Ciudadela Pamplona's Ciudadela is a large star shaped fortification built in the 16th century under the authority of King Felipe II. Commonly known as a star fort it is a pentagonal shaped fortification built as such to lessen the impact of cannon fire on it's walls. Though Pamplona's Ciudadela remains in a good state of repair two of its points have been sliced away to make room for the ever expanding city. The Ciudadela's main entrance is in the oldest part of Pamplona, though there is another aptly named Soccorro (meaning help) gate.
