Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca previously a small fishing village, at the very southern tip of the island of Lanzarote.  The weather in Playa Blanca is lovely, warm and dry - the majority of the time as it is situated in the south! Lanzarote is by far the least mountainous of the Canary Islands and has a great deal of flat land. Due to this it is below the level of warm air and humidity. Mostly this results to a dry climate and very little rain. The average temperature in the summer is 24 degrees Celsius and in the winter still only 17 degrees Celsius!

Playa Blanca is the most recent development, with a beautiful new promenade along the sea front. The seafront walk, runs along the whole coast. There are Shops, restaurants, a few bars, bazaars, car rentals, an extensive variety of leisure activities, the quiet of its beaches is what this place offers to allow you to enjoy a splendid holiday.

If you fancy just relaxing at the beach, then there are various very attractive beaches in Playa Blanca, and that make up this part of the coast. Playa Blanca is a beach of golden sand, easy to access from the promenade, which ends where the port of Playa Blanca begins. Playa Flamingo and Playa Dorada are beaches of golden white sand with calm waters near to all the services that the town has to offer. On most of these beaches you will find have row upon row of sunbeds and parasols, they are ideal for families as swimming is safe here, there is watersports along the beach, There is also toilets, changing huts and showers on the beach and the restaurants are never more than a 5-minute walk away.

Not far from the quaint fishing village lies the island's most beautiful beach, Papaqayo. This is really a true paradise almost unequalled anywhere else in the world.

If an active holiday is what you were planning then there are lots of places for you to visit and things to do in Lanzarote! If you are visiting Lanzarote you will probably be staying in one of the main tourist resorts like that of Playa Blanca, sadly this resort has lost of its traditional architecture and way of life to make way for the tourists. To get a real feel of Lanzarote you should make your way to some of the villages scattered over the island. You can do this by excursion's that you can book through any good tour operator or along the main high street in Playa Blanca you will find companies that run these excursions too. Of course there is another way and that is to hire a car giving you the freedom to explore this island at your own pace and in your own time.

Close by is a main attraction of Lanzarote, that is the The National Park of Timanfaya, which is home to the once raging Montaoas del Fuego - Mountains of Fire, this park has been created over 52 square kilometers of volcanic landscape. Even to this today the whole area of the national park quietly bubbles away under the earths surface at temperatures ranging from 100 - 400 degrees Celsius. You can take a bus trip to the summit of the volcanoes, where you will be amazed at the unique surrounding landscape. This is strictly prohibited unless you take this trip.

If enjoy the water, Lanzarote and Playa Blanca in paticular - offer's some of the best scuba-diving in the world, with the majority of dive schools catering for the beginner through to the advanced diver. Diving is the probably the most popular watersport in Lanzarote. The underwater of this magnificent island is special volcanic character and has an abundant fish life. With a beautiful seabottom with lavarock and sand.  On many places the bottom slopes down to a lava reef. The reef is actually a lava wall with crevices and ledges around which you can find a rich fishlife. There is about 550 different kinds of fish and over 1000 invertebrates in the Canary Islands.

Nightlife here is quiet so if you are wanting to party the night away then you shall have to make to make your way over to another tourist 'hot spot' in Lanzarote which is Puerto del Carmen here you will find many bars of a huge variety, Casino and even a Western ranch that has evening entertainment! But in Playa Blanca the evenings consist of lovely meals in beautiful seafront restaurants, an evening stroll or a quiet bar where you can sit and watch the world go by. There are a few bars that cater for a little livelier crowd and have live music or DJ's, you will find these around the promenade.

There are plenty of places to stay here from private villas, apartments and hotels - that range from basic, somewhere to lay your head to really luxurious, the majority of accommodation in this resort is ranging towards luxurious more than basic!

There are plenty of Apartments to rent for your holiday, in Playa Blanca, whether you want a basic apartment just to lay your head a night or luxurious with an abundance of facilities! They range in size from studio's or one bedroom apartments if there are just the two of you to three bedroom - normally sleeping up 8 if your taking the family or going in a big group.

There also the private rentals, people that have bought the property for holiday homes and when they are not there rent out for your exclusive use! These are lovely, normally set in privately owned complexes, where people live! Most come with communal swimming pools too, and these are normally quieter due to this. A word of warning though these are quieter and normally better for families or older groups than the young tourists!!!

Prices range from €45 per day for a Studio in Playa Blanca upwards. They will do deals for the longer you have it, it becomes cheaper per day! But generally you are looking from €150 per week for a Studio rental and prices go compared to size and location.

Why not take a look at Zettagroups Hotel website - search on the Hotels link above, here you can get more information on Hotels and their availability plus price, in that area.
