Plaza Alfonso XIII Square Santander's Plaza Alfonso XIII square is situated in the bay area and forms a popular stop on the Paseo de Pereda. A popular meeting point in the city centre it is a pleasant place for both locals and tourists to rest their weary feet. On one side is a monument to Velarde, a famous artillery captain who fought against the forces of Napoleon in Madrid in the early 1800's.
