Plaza de Velarde Square Santander's Plaza de Velarde square forms a part of the centre of Santander's commercial and business district. It is an elegant square surrounded by arcaded buildings, and though built after the great fire of 1941 shows a good deal of character. Visitors are likely to stumble across the Plaza de Velarde square during a days shopping as it is crossed by a number of Santander's main shopping streets.
