The most popular resort for English tourists is Puerto del Carmen, in Lanzarote it has a great nightlife with a wide variety of shops, Bars, Restaurants and Discos that do not finish until the very early hours of the morning! It can be a very English resort and you will find it hard to find the traditional Canarian and Spanish Restaurants, but there are plenty of English and Chinese Restaurants - even a MacDonalds!
Puerto del Carmen has peaceful beaches of long stretches of golden sand, bays, plenty of Tourist Attractions, luxury and basic accommodation, the resort is only 10 minutes from Lanzarote airport, and is situated in the south central part of the island.
From once being a small seaside village dedicated to fishing, it has been transformed into one of the most popular tourist zones on the island.
Puerto del Carmen is the “pulsating” tourist centre for nightlife of the Island with two merging areas: the famous promenade packed with live music bars, pubs and discos to suit most tastes; and la Tiñosa which unfolds around the old fishermen’s port and it is soaked in a very special atmosphere.
Rancho Texas Park is a great family day out or evening entertainment. It is located just outside Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote, and is Lanzarote's only Theme park!! Rancho Texas is a 50,000 m² Western Theme Park that feature's; A Nature Park, Horse riding, Indian Village and Theme Restaurants - that host Rancho Texas’ brilliant Country and Western nights.
If you fancy just relaxing at the beach, then there are plenty surrounding this resort, most of the beaches that are situated in Puerto del Carmen you will find have row upon row of sunbeds and parasols, they are ideal for families as swimming is safe here, there is watersports along the beach, There is also toilets, changing huts and showers on the beach and the restaurants and bars are never more than a 5-minute walk away. Playa Blanca is a beach of black volcanic sand of some 1,200 metres in length situated in the centre of Puerto del Carmen and bordered by a promenade. It has clean, clear waters, is easily reached, and enjoys all types of services, including toilets, changing huts and showers, bars and restaurants and watersports. Playa de Matagorda, is near the airport at Guacimeta, has 800m of black volcanic sand, clear and calm waters, just like the beaches of Pena Grande, Barilla and Fariones. Playa de Los Pocillos has 1,300 metres of black volcanic sand. The ocean surrounding this beach is ideal for learning to windsurf.
The weather in Puerto del Carmen and in Lanzarote is warm all year round. It is by far the least mountainous of the Canary Islands and has a great deal of flat land. Due to this it is below the level of warm air and humidity. Mostly this results to a dry climate and very little rain. The average temperature in the summer is 24 degrees Celsius and in the winter still only 17 degrees Celsius!
There are plenty of places to stay here from private villas, apartments and hotels - that range from basic, somewhere to lay your head to really luxurious!
There are plenty of Apartments to rent for your holiday, in Playas de las Americas, whether you want a basic apartment just to lay your head a night or luxurious with an abundance of facilities! They range in size from studio's or one bedroom apartments if there are just the two of you to three bedroom - normally sleeping up 8 if your taking the family or going in a big group.
There also the private rentals, people that have bought the property for holiday homes and when they are not there rent out for your exclusive use! These are lovely, normally set in privately owned complexes, where people live! Most come with communal swimming pools too, and these are normally quieter due to this. A word of warning though these are quieter and normally better for families or older groups than the young tourists!!!
Prices range from €40 per day for a Studio in Puerto del Carmen upwards. They will do deals for the longer you have it, it becomes cheaper per day! But generally you are looking from €150 per week for a Studio rental and prices go compared to size and location.
