| Puerto Pollensa Holidays Puerto Pollensa is located along the north west coast of Majorca / Mallorca. Majorca and the rest of the Balearic islands lay off the south east coast of mainland Spain in the Mediterranean Sea, its sister islands are Ibiza and Menorca. It is a lovely holiday destination, throughout the summer peak season you will find many British and other European tourists vacating to the resort and the island. This will check all the major tour operators and holiday companies. Majorca / Mallorca is a beautiful island with many things to do and see, natural and man made. In the bay of Pollensa you will find a multitude of luxury yachts, as well as a mixture of local colourful fishing boats, which unfortunately in the recent years are now in a minority. In the area there are a number of small natural beaches, plus the recently extended artificial one, they all offer the usual selection of facilities including sunbeds, parasols, toilets, bars, cafes, restaurants and water sports. The warm and shallow waters of the bay make it especially popular with families with small children. The main feature of this fabulous resort is the Sierra de Tramuntana mountain range that surrounds and shelters the town. For those hikers or just active tourists, you will find numerous walks into these hills from which the views back over the bay are stunning. You can get local guide books which document the walks and tell you everything you will need to know, this is highly recommended even for the experienced hiker. Although Puerto Pollensa is situated in the north west, the weather is still warm. The islands mild temperatures and the low rain rate make it a perfect beach destination. The tourist season begins in May and ends in October. In Summer the average temperature is 23º Celsius. Rain is an almost unknown phenomenon during Summer, its not often you even see a cloudy day. The rainy season is throughout the Winter, but even then rain is not common! Accommodation is easy to come by in Puerto Pollensa, Mallorca / Majorca, In the lovely town and on its outskirts, there are many excellent hotels, whether you are looking for value for money and a basic hotel, somewhere just to lie your head at night or a really luxurious hotel with an abundant of facilities where there is no need to leave the hotel if you don't want to! There are also plenty of Apartments and Villas to rent out whether privately or in a complex, again these can be basic with enough to keep you comfortable on your vacation in Mallorca / Majorca or extremely luxurious - home to home, style. With Villas that have loads of land, private pools and other facilities that you would expect to find in a home and villas / apartments in complex's with lots of communal amenities like you would expect to find in a hotel. Puerto Pollensa is without a doubt where your accommodation will be if staying in this area over the past 40 years the majority of tourist development for the area has taken place around the port area of Pollensa. However, the old Roman town of Pollensa can still be found 5km inland from the port, and it is certainly worth a visit with many of the narrow streets dating back to the 18th Century. The old town of Pollensa now actually lies in the municipality of Alcudia. Tourists have been coming to Puerto Pollensa since the 1920's and the hotels along the sea front still retain that old fashion air! The airport, Son Sant Joan is situated in the south of the islands, just outside the capital of the island, Palma. A flight to Mallorca is only between 2 to 2 and a half hours from the UK. As you are flying into Majorca, the first landmark you will see on the final approach before landing will be the magnificent 14th Century Gothic cathedral at nearby Palma, and the sight of it from the air never ceases to take your breath away. Transfer time to Puerto Pollensa is about 1 and a half hours. There are many airlines that fly to Mallorca / Majorca from most UK Airports and all over Europe. The prices can really vary, again depending on which airline and what time of year etc but generally you can get a great deal and will not be looking at more than £100 for a return flight. Easyjet do some fantastic deals and occasionally you can even get a flight to Majorca for as little as £10! The flight time is about two / two and a half hours from London airports. If you are looking for an active holiday, other than the beaches and hotel facilities there is little else to do in Puerto Pollensa, this resort is perfect for those wanting to relax and chill on the beach or round the pool for their holiday, or maybe go for a walk in the mountains but other then the walking and watersports you will find little other activities. For those of you who do want days out at waterparks or go karting etc you will find all of that at Hidropark less than a 10 minute drive in the resort of Alcudia. The nightlife in Puerto Pollensa is quiet. You will find many restaurants, including several high class fish restaurants located along the sea front - which are meant to be the best on the island. There are also a few quiet bars - Puerto Pollensa is perfect for those families or people who fancy a nice, relaxing meal and a drink under the stars and watch the world go by. If you are looking to party the night away in loud bars with non stop karaoke then this resort is not for you. However if you just fancy having a party one night on your holiday then Alcudia resort is a lot louder is is less than 10 minutes drive away. Most entertaining nightlife in Puerto Pollensa is Hotel based. Mallorca / Majorca is such a magnificent island you would be mad to visit for your holiday and not explore it! and what better way than in your own rented car?! Hiring a car for a couple of days and going exploring is a brilliant day out, some areas on the island have such beauty that it will take your breath away! The little towns and villages are all easily accessible with decent roads throughout the island. Mopeds are also another means for travelling and exploring the island. These are also available for hire from as little as around 15 euros per day, but you should take extra precautions in Mallorca / Majorca on the roads with a lot of holiday makers frequently involved in accidents because they are either drinking or generally excited and having fun on their holiday that they arent taking due care. Away from the resorts of Mallorca, inland towns are fairly undeveloped and offer a more relaxed way of life, with many interesting attractions. Much of Mallorca does remain untouched by tourism and Mallorca, together with other nearby islands, is popular with the rich and famous and many celebrities have secluded homes on the hillsides. If vacating in Puerto Pollensa, then I am sure you will have a fabulous holiday and find plenty or as little as you want to do!
