It boasts excellent road access via the C-31 motorway, linking with the C-32 Costa Brava-Sitiges motorway. Additionally there are a number of bus & train connections to many popular destinations. It is Spain's second ranked airport in terms of passenger traffic & amongst the ten busiest in Europe. In excess of 24,500,000 passengers passed through it in 2004; with numbers rising year on year. The airport is fast becoming a major hub for international travel & is often cheap & easy to fly into. Girona International Airport (GRO) is the Costa Brava's resident airport, & is located some 40 km from the coast & 12 km from Girona itself. Air traffic here has exploded in recent years, especially with the introduction of budget airline routes; passenger figures stand at 3,000,000 in 2004. However it still plays second fiddle to the much larger airport at Barcelona & is often seen as an alternative to flying there. Girona airport is most used by passengers travelling to the coastal resorts of the Costa Brava (Roses, Roses etc), & by skiing enthusiasts on their way to Andorra.
