Welcome to Sa Coma Holidays

Sa Coma and its neighbour S'Illot are small tourist resorts that lie in the heart of the popular east coast of Majorca / Mallorca. Situated almost in the middle between the larger  tourist resorts of Cala Millor and Porto Cristo. S’Illot can be reached on foot, while a tourist tram connects to Cala Millor and its attractions.

This will check all the major tour operators and holiday companies.

Sa Coma being located in the East of the island has mild temperatures and a low rain rate like the majority of the rest of the island. Which make's this island a perfect beach destination. The tourist season begins in May and ends in October. In Summer the average temperature is 23º Celsius. Rain is an almost unknown phenomenon during Summer, it’s not often you even see a cloudy day. The rainy season is throughout the Winter, but even then rain is not common, especially in the South of the Island!

There is plenty to do in Sa Coma and its surrounding area.  You can around on the beach, and this seems to be one of the main reason most families choose to vacate here. The beaches have excellent facilities including a host of water sports (equipment and pedalo boats are for hire along the promenade). Sa Coma's Beach is an exceptionally sandy beach and has the usual selection of beach amenities. Just behind the beach there is a lovely promenade thats runs the full length of the resort towards S'Illot and a smaller sheltered beach of Cala Moreya, sometimes written as Cala Moraia.

As with all of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca / Majorca are excellent for all kinds of watersports. Tourists flock here throughout the year and try there hand at the popular sports such as diving, of there are many centres that can teach you and get your certificate, from beginner to advanced! Fishing, is another favourite, again you will find many companies or private charters around the ports in the main tourist resorts. These companies will take you out for the day for all sorts of fishing whether it be Big Game fishing or just normal they can provide assistance and generally these companies even put on a little picnic for you! Then there is sailing, windsurfing, skin divers and the usual tourist watersports; ringo's, para sailing, banana boats, water skiing and jet skiing!

Sa Coma also boasts several 18-hole golf courses, tennis and squash courts, horse-riding, mini-golf, bowling, go-carting, and bicycling facilities.

If you have Children there is also plenty of things for them to do, they may especially enjoy the Golf Paradis 54-hole mini golf course which is set among fountains, waterfalls and palm trees, and the Cala Millor safari park, which is another big plus for the children as the resort is within close proximity to the large safari-park, here you will find apes, gazelles, elephants and ostriches, among just some of the animals that roam in a simulated natural environment. Here you have the choice of driving around the 4km circuit in your own car, or taking the zoo's own mini train, although having seen the damage a group of hungry monkeys can do in a matter of seconds I think the mini train could be the better option! Getting there from either Cala Bona or Cala Millor is very easy on the parks own courtesy bus which leaves regularly throughout the day from 9am to 7pm. Admission to get to Auto Safari is quite reasonable at only 10€ for adults and 7€ for children.

For the more energetic a climb up to the medieval watchtower on the headland which is located at Punta de n’Amer, is a well worth while 45-minute walk as it has amazing views from the top, at the top you will find a nice little café for refreshments.

There is also an array of sight-seeing boat trips and excursions on offer. Plus many other attractions around the island like the Caves of Ham and Drac, with stalactites, stalagmites, an underground lake.

Sa Coma only started developing during the mid 1980's and is now a modern tourist purpose built resort designed to meet the every increasing demand for tourist accommodation! Sa Coma itself is largely frequented by British family groups. The resort now has a good selection of shops restaurants and bars, many of which are owned by British, or at least targeted towards the British holiday maker - which tend to be in the main area within the resort.

The small resort of S'Illot is a complete contrast to Sa Coma, where Sa Coma is modern and purpose built for tourism, S'Illot was originally a traditional fishing village that has over the years has adapted and changed a little to accomodate for holiday makers and is now a popular, although small holiday resort. The two resorts are seperated by a small freshwater lagoon, which you can cross with a footbridge or there is also a slightly larger bridge used for crossing over with cars. Sa Coma being the more modern resort of the two resorts, it does have a better selection of 3 and 4 star hotels, S'Illot tends to have a slightly larger number of self catering apartments.

Accommodation is easy to come by in Sa Coma, you will many excellent hotels, whether you are looking for value for money and a basic hotel, somewhere just to lie your head at night or a really luxurious hotel with an abundant of  facilities where there is no need to leave the hotel if you don't want to! There are also plenty of Apartments and Villas to rent out whether privately or in a complex, again these can be basic with enough to keep you comfortable on your vacation in Sa Coma or extremely luxurious - home to home, style. With Villas that have loads of land, private pools and other facilities that you would expect to find in a home and villas / apartments in complex's with lots of communal amenities like you would expect to find in a hotel.

The airport, Son Sant Joan is situated in the south of the islands, just outside the capital, Palma. The island is small so transfer time from the airport to Sa Coma  is generally about two hours. Obviously this can vary depending what time of the day or night it is etc. A flight to Mallorca is only between 2 to 2 and a half hours from the UK. There are many airlines that fly to Mallorca / Majorca from most UK Airports and all over Europe. The prices can really vary, again depending on which airline and what time of year etc but generally you can get a great deal and will not be looking at more than £100 for a return flight. Easyjet do some fantastic deals and occasionally you can even get a flight to Majorca for as little as £10! The flight time is about two / two and a half hours from London airports. As you are flying into Majorca, the first landmark you will see on the final approach before landing will be the magnificent 14th Century Gothic cathedral at nearby Palma, and the sight of it from the air never ceases to take your breath away.

Nightlife in Sa Coma offers a varied selection of good quality restaurants, and just across the footbridge on the S’Illot seafront even more options are available. If you are looking for a livelier nightlife then you will have to take the short distance to Cala Millor, where you will find an array of restaurants of all varieties, bars that have all kinds of entertainment, everything from live bands, cabaret, karaoke, sports, stand up etc. There are also a few disco's for those of you that want to party the night away! This is not ideal place if you are a 'hardcore party goer' - definitely not an 18-30's type holiday but perfect for those who are wanting nights out to finish lovely days on their holidays.

The resort has a good selection of shops, although they do tend to lack any great variety in the range of products they each shop stocks. If you do venture beyond your sun bed, local markets are held every Friday in nearby Son Servera, further a field to the north in Arta on a Tuesday, and 20km inland at Manacor every Monday.

Public transport isn't all that good around the east coast so I would highly recommend hiring a car if you don't want to pay the tour operator charges. So if all the attractions above are not enough you could just hire a car and go exploring for the day, the island is so magnificent with beauty that it will take your breath away! The little towns and villages are all easily accessible with decent roads throughout the island. Or alternatively you can easily pop over to Majorca's neighbour islands Ibiza and Menorca on one of the regular ferries, this can be another great day out and you get to see 2 islands on 1 holiday! A word of warning though if you have hired a car then check with the company before you go across to another island that you are insured as a lot of insurance will become void as soon as you cross the ferry!

Where you end up staying in Mallorca, I am sure you will have a fabulous holiday and find plenty or as little as you want to do!
