Salamanca Holidays As a high standing Spanish city Salamanca offers its visitors a wealth of attractions, and is a suitable place to visit during both the summer and winter seasons. Salamanca is also well placed for travel throughout Spain via the excellent road network; this makes travel between cities and towns by car very easy. There are plenty of opportunities for car hire in the city; see the Salamanca Car Hire document for more information. Salamanca is a moderately sized but incredibly beautiful city in western Spain. In 2002 it won the award for European city of Culture, as well as being declared a UNESCO world heritage site. Salamanca offers it's visitors a very authentic experience, with great efforts made to preserve it's architectural heritage, most of which is made from a yellow colored sand stone. There are also extensive pedestrianised areas. Modern amenities have been added, such as it's train station, many art galleries and museums; however care has been taken to locate these additions away from it's historic centre. There are of course a multitude of cafes, bars, and entertainment venues present to entertain the large student populace. But again they are either in keeping with their surroundings or away from the town centre. Salamanca is used to a high volume of international visitors on an annual basis resulting in a wide range of accommodation options. There are a multitude of good quality and affordable hotels and other rental properties present; these cater for high-end to budget travel requirements. During the summer months (June-September) it is possible for daily highs to reach as high as 35°C, and for much of the season are similar to that of much of Spain. It's winters however can be cold, and though not quite ever reaching freezing point are still a contrast with the mild winters enjoyed farther south.
