It is both charming & well preserved, with flower filled winding streets & monuments of antiquity; such as its 10th century Moorish castle. The more modern residential zones spread down the slope towards the beach area, which is home to a multitude of restaurants & bars. This is the best place for visitors to enjoy the local cuisine; & take note it is customary in this part of Spain to receive a small plate of Tapas with every drink. To the west of Salobrena are many sugar cane plantations, which stretch across to Europe's last sugar factory in Caleta.
