San Servando Castle The San Servando Castle in Toledo was constructed on a site of strategic importance across a bridge from the city main. This spot is ideal for a defensive structure and was utilised by the Moors and most likely the Visigoths for this same purpose. Bizarrely the castle was originally built by King Alfonso VI of Spain to serve as a monastery, though transformed into a fortification at a later date. Subsequent alterations brought the castle to it's current form, which is widely lauded as being one of the finest examples of Mudejar military architecture in all of Spain. It boasts cylindrical towers and horseshoe shaped arches as well as may smaller touches. Toledo Tourist Office TEL +34 925 220843 FAX +34 925 252648
