Sierra Nevada Nature Reserve The protected nature reserve of the Sierra Nevada measures a total of 86,208 hectares. There are two main visitor centres located at the eastern & western ends of the park. They offer various activities including exhibitions on the parks flora & fauna, hiking, cycling (with bike hire), horse-riding, & paragliding. Guidebooks & maps of the park are available for sale, as are locally produced goods (hams, cheeses etc.) at the in-house shop, & coffee/snacks at the cafeteria. The Sierra Nevada is prized for the cleanliness of its air as much as it is for its wildlife. In fact the park boasts its very own observatory near the town of Loma de Dilar. Known as the Sierra Nevada Observatory it is managed  by the Institute of Astrophysics Andalucia. Those seeking accommodation in the more remote areas of the Sierra Nevada will find a host of campsites, mountain refuges, & self catering accommodation available.
