Tenerife Tenerife is the largest island in the Archipelago of the Canary Islands (Isla Canarias). The Canaries Archipelago consist of seven large and six smaller islands based in the Atlantic Ocean, lying some 100km off the North West coast off Africa (Morocco and Western Sahara) and about 1100km from the Spanish mainland (Cadiz). The Canary Islands are split into 2 Spanish provinces; The Westerly Islands of Tenerife, La Palma, Gomera and Hierro from the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (chief town Santa Cruz) while the Eastern Islands of Gran Canaria, FuerteVentura and Lanzarote from the province of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (chief town Las Palmas). Tenerife has many places for you to visit whilst you are staying there. There are Tenerife attractions for everyone, whether you are visiting with Friends or the Family and bringing the Kids! Tenerife measures 130km from the East to West coast and 90km from the North to South coast (a total area of 2057 sq km). The resort of Los Cristianos is a neighbour of Playa de las Americas, just a little quieter it is ideal for families! Only forty five minutes transfer from Sur Reina Sofia Airport. El Medano is a small coastal resort, in the south of Tenerife, only 7km from Sur Reina Airport and 20km from the Main Southern resorts, Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos. The resort of Playa de las Americas is Tenerife 'hot spot' most famous for its black beaches and nightlife! It is the tourist Mecca, favoured by northern Europeans and youngsters to come and party!! Built in the late 1960's it is virtually not Canarian at all!! Puerto de la Cruz, is an old fishing port and is one of Spain's major attractions. Although remarkably it remains unscathed. The old town of La Orotava in the North of Tenerife has a population of over thirty six thousand, lies on the banana plantation in the valley Orotava! With it's 1,000 hectares of vineyards cultivated in this ample valley of extraordinary beauty that stands at the foot of Mount Teide and it extends until the sea with great shades of diverse land. Los Realejos situated in the North under the slopes of the great Las Cañadas del Teide mountain range. With a population of around thirty two and a half thousand, it has grow of importance and population than it had in he past! It is now classed as one of Tenerife's Cities! Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the capital of Tenerife and with a population of over 200,000 inhabitants is the second most populated city in the Canary Islands. The stunning island of Los Gigantes is situated on the west coast of Tenerife. Named after the imposing cliffs (the Giants). You can see these cliffs up close by getting a boat, which are available to hire from the marina! Chayofa is located in the south of Tenerife, situated 300 metres above sea level this idealic beautiful village has some amazing panoramic views over the hills of Tenerife. Las Galletas is a typical example of a Canarian village and the culture, with its narrow streets and little squares both filled with restaurants and cafes, where you will find people sitting, watching the world go by. Adeje is a wonderful municipality that is located in the south of Tenerife, situated close to Playa de Las Americas and Los Cristianos. The peaceful and quiet resort of Costa del Silencio is adajacent to the lovely resort of Chayofa and is located in the south of Tenerife, sharing its scenery, nightlife and tourist attractions this is much the same resort, just a little quieter. Fanabe located in the south of Tenerife, in the Playa de Las Americas region of Tenerife. It was intended to attract the upmarket tourist clientele to the island. Golf del Sur is a large complex situated in the South of Tenerife as its name describes it is a golf complex, so is ideal for golfers. Guaza is a small urbanisation close to Los Cristianos in the south of Tenerife. There is not much to do in this lovely little village, but if you fancy something different then the urbanisation of Guaza is worth a visit. In the north west of Tenerife you will find the picturesque village of Masca located in an imposing gorge. It is thought to be the prettiest village in all of Tenerife with cobbled stone buildings that look out to the beautiful green vegetation. Los Abrigos is a small, traditional Canarian fishing village located in the south of Tenerife in between El Medano and Golf del Sur. Teresitas is located just to the north of Santa Cruz the capital of Tenerife. Teresitas is a small beach resort that is perfect for families with children. Amarilla Golf is the older of the golf complex's in the South of Tenerife, close to the Golf del Sur complex. The Amarilla covers a large area and surrounds a golf course, although there are only three golf courses. Garachico was originally Tenerife Capital, the modest fishing village with little cottages and large townhouses lining the small cobbled streets that along with the pretty harbour make up the town. Playa Paraiso is a tourist area through and through! Located within a few minutes of the popular tourist resorts - Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas in the south of Tenerife, the whole resort is mainly made up of four high rise hotels apartment blocks! Callao Salvaje is a small town with a mixture of residents and tourists, it is situated in the south of Tenerife, just a few miles west of the popular resorts; Las Americas and Los Cristianos.
