Toledo Fiestas As a city of great standing and tradition Toledo's fiestas are among the best in Spain. There are many fiestas throughout its calendar, some larger than others. Below we list some of the most popular events.   Toledo's most important fiesta is the Corpus Christi celebration, which takes place on the Sunday of the eight week after holy week (usually around mid June). The event takes a very medieval tone, is presided over by the archbishop primate of Spain, and has been officially declared of international interest. The fiesta is at it's grandest in Toledo due to the city's role as the home of Spain's Catholic church. It's celebration is thought to date back as far as the 15th century. The main focus of the day centres around a procession comprising various religious medieval guilds in their different colored habits, and the carrying of the Monstrace; a magnificent gold and silver work dating from the 15th century. However it is the city itself which is the major spectacle here, with great effort made to bring Toledo's past back to life by way of it's adornment with many lanterns, tapestries, wreaths, awnings, and flowers. Central city streets are strewn with aromatic herbs and church bells ring frequently. The week following the day of the Corpus Christi is typically given over to many concerts, sporting events, food, drink, and much more. In short it is a fun time to visit Toledo.   Precise dates cannot be given for many of the above festivities due to ever changing dates.
