Tossa de Mar Holidays Tossa de Mar is a great place to travel to for your holidays. Firstly it is located in close proximity to two international airports; Barcelona Airport (BCN), which is Spain's second ranked airport in terms of passenger traffic & amongst the ten busiest in Europe, & Girona Airport (GRO) offering yet more flight options & closer proximity to the Costa's main resorts. Those intending on visiting other parts of Spain or indeed the south of France will find Tossa de Mar an ideal base to do this from. This is mainly from an accessibility point of view, but also because of the wide choice of accommodation on offer. Tossa de Mar has been a popular tourist hot spot since the 1950's, where previously it had relied on agriculture & to a lesser extent the fishing trade for it's fortune. At this time the shooting of a Hollywood classic (Pandora & the Flying Dutchman starring Ava Gardner & James Mason) helped promote the town, & significant investment by Spain's government funded the construction of hotels & apartment complexes, wide stretches of coastline to be adapted, & the improvement of municipal facilities. This paid off & the tourist trade now swells the town population ten-fold during the summer months. One of the main reasons behind Tossa de Mar's original attraction lay in the beauty of the countryside surrounding it. This often varied terrain is ideal for farming, while at the same time (due to it's location in the foothills of the Pyrenees mountain range) favoured amongst those who travel to the area to participate in adventure sports, from hiking & mountain biking to rock climbing & skiing. One of Tossa de Mar's biggest draws is in the diversity of accommodation on offer. There are a multitude of good quality & affordable options on hotels & rental properties, catering from high-end to budget travel requirements. In fact some of the most accessible Tossa de Mar Beaches are blue flag rated & kept meticulously clean. The majority of the most popular offerings are made up of golden sand, but there are pebbled beaches & rocky alcoves for those who prefer to indulge in a spot of snorkeling. Tossa de Mar's does have a nightlife but it is not nearly as busy as that of neighbouring Lloret de Mar. The town features a collection of restauarnts & bars to keep visitors interested for a couple of weeks, & aimed mainly at families. Of course some venues stay do open until the early hours, but not in any quantity. With average highs of 29°C (82°F) in the summer months & 13°C (55°F) in the winter, it is possible to enjoy an outdoor life at any time of the year.
