Valencia Cathedral

As with many ancient religious constructs Valencia's Cathedral has been modified throughout its history. However it originally dates from the 13th century and its dominant style is Gothic. It was built on the site of a former mosque converted into a church after the reconquest which was deemed to insignificant to carry the title of Valencia Cathedral. There are many notable features present, from the 14th century Apostles doorway, to its decadent chapel in marble and bronze, or the many other relics that litter its interior.

One relic worthy of elaboration is the Capilla del Santo Caliz, which housed in a key shaped chamber is thought by many to be the holy grail. In fact it is the only officially recognised pretender to the grail and was used by Pope Benedict XVI in a mass given during his visit to Valencia.
