Vilafranca del Penedes Vilafranca del Penedes is a town of some 30,000 inhabitants. It is the capital of the Alt Penedes region/county within Barcelona province. Vilafranca has a nice medieval town centre with Gothic church, town hall, & more. Aside from the collection of modern shops the town has attracted, there is a market situated several times per week behind the church. Vilafranca is also well known for its Casteller team; essentially a team of people that make tall human towers at fiesta time. The land around the town is made up almost exclusively of vineyards, as this area is Catalonia's largest producer of wines. A wine museum is located in the town centre. Vilafrance is connected with Barcelona (30 km away) by train & by the fast A-7 road.
